Doctor Who: The Savages Part 4

It is Monday January 22, 2018, and this week's Doctor Who review is part 4 of The Savages

The fourth chapter of the Savages aired June 18, 1966 with 4.5 Million Viewers tuning in, this was a drop from the 5 Million that watched part three the previous week.

The story of the episode is very straight forward, it is revealed that when Jano risked himself in the transference of the Doctor’s intellect into himself, he gained the Doctor’s sense of right and wrong, which leads him to want to destroy the lab to get things set right. Plus the guard that was captured and held in the cave Exores also sees the errors of his ways when Nanina opens his eyes with her willingness to go against the others who want to kill him.

This is the only episode of the story that had clips from the original broadcast, most of which involve the ending when Steven is chosen to be the new leader of the City and Cave dwellers, since he is a neutral party, it was nice to see the actual reactions of him, Dodo and The Doctor as good-byes were said.

Peter Purves who played Steven, said he would’ve loved to return to Doctor Who at some point to see what was the result of Steven being left in character, preferably if the character turned into an evil bastard or if things went really wrong. I’m actually surprised that hasn’t been done in some form, particularly sense Mr. Purves has played the role of Steven for Big Finish Production in 19 release… but I bet it has to do with how fractured the ownership of various characters and concepts from the original Doctor Who is.

On a side note: following his stint on Doctor Who, Purves would be a presenter on the children’s TV program Blue Peter from November 1967 to March 1978…. making him the second longest tenured presenter in that program’s history and has been associated in some form or fashion with the TV coverage of Dog Shows.

Next Week: We’ll begin our 4 part look at the last story of the classic Doctor Who’s third season ‘The War Machines, where we say good-bye to Dodo… and meet new companions Ben Jackson and Polly

Ohranger, Football, Dodgeball and Highlights From Tonight's Twitch Broadcast!

Following last night's broadcast I went on to watch the entire series of Chouriki Sentai Ohranger, the series that would end up being Power Rangers Zeo, and I enjoyed it a lot more than I did Zeo, primarily because the villains were treated as more of a threat than just a spin on the Rita / Zedd formula.  Not to mention the monsters of the day have a lot more vicious intents than how there portrayed on Zeo, for example one mutating a father who ends up snatching kids to mutate them into more monsters.

Also watched Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story from 2004, a pretty funny film at times but did it really have to include the seemingly obligatory 'hero gets his head messed with, leaves team in a bid only to return for the big game' gimmick? Also... the fat suit for Ben Stiller was awfully fake, there are ways to make it look good, but they went for the gross-out factor which really didn't work as a 'mid credits' gag.

Speaking of underdogs... did the heavily favored Minnesota Vikings forget how to play, they got steamed rolled by the underdog Philadelphia Eagles 38-7 in the NFC Championship game. The game was competitive for all of 5 minutes... anyway, good chance the Eagles will lose in the Super Bowl cause the media and the NFL would want Tom Brady to win another Super Bowl before he retires to cement his legacy even further.

And of course here are highlights from my January 21, 2018 broadcast of Poker Night 2, BlazBlue Continuum Shift, Gunstar Heroes, Smite and DuckTales: Remastered
