Among The Sleep: Reaction

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement...

I've played many games on Twitch from Power Rangers to Smite, from Star Trek Online to Saints Row: Gat out of Hell... but last night certainly was 'something different' with Among the Sleep.

Released in May of 2014, in this game you play as toddler on his second birthday whose mother is a bit stingy with the cake and a bit disapproving of a present that arrives for our two-foot tall hero, which happens to be a teddy bear that 'talks' and doubles as a flash light when hugged tightly. That night, the teddy bear is taken, the crib tumbles overs, it's dark, there's thunder and lighting and our compact hero is off to find his mama.... and what ends up happening is the player experiences some serious nightmare fuel that sees the kid clutching his teddy bear through some a house that has been turned into something from the mind of twisted fucks who wrote SAW... and there are monstrous creatures chasing him as well! Let me put it this way: fuck the achievements, we got to find mommy cause there's some scary shit going on... which certainly ends up seeming like a bad idea.

Played from the first-person perspective, you have pretty basic stuff for controls, WASD keys to move, use the mouse to look around, space bar to climb, shift to run and left crtl to switch between crawling and walking (thought crawling is faster), using the F key squeezes the teddy bear which acts like a flash light, but you can only use it when walking, which I found myself doing most of the time.  The left mouse button allows you to interact with objects (pick up and hold for example) while the right allows you to throw items (this comes into play twice) I played this game with headphone on, and the sound mix is enough to kick into the instinct of what you should do, such as the rapid heart beats of the terrific terrified tyke telling you to hug that teddy bear tightly!

Now during my live twitch broadcast last night, I compared this game to the Turing Test which I played recently, and I still stand by that, as both contain puzzles that seem obvious but aren't exactly obvious. Overall I did enjoy this game, even though I don't think I will re-visit it any time soon.

Congrats Alec Peters / CBS / Paramount, I Won't Be Watching Star Trek Discovery

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement...

Not to long ago, my video REVIEW of the movie Star Trek Beyond was claimed by Paramount Pictures that they owned the 'content', On top of that, months before CBS claimed ownership over a couple of my reviews of that horrible MacGyver reboot....still I wasn't given a copyright strike or anything, and it's not like my site, blog or youtube channel gets enough traffic for my to worry about lost revenue.

However, they have crossed the line.... last week, the awesome Tribbles in Ecstasy Podcast did a massive breakdown of the Star Trek Discovery trailer... and their YouTube channel did get a copyright strike, even though they did not use any media related to it. That is straight up bush league, because TIE is one of the best Star Trek related podcasts out there that gives strong attention to Star Trek Online on by the PC and on the consoles.

So while I was having thoughts of  watching Star Trek Discovery even if it's going to be behind the CBS All Access pay-wall, I can say right now, that I'm not going to waste my time with it. Because what would end up happening is that I will want to review the episodes, and recent history has shown that CBS and Paramount are totally paranoid about their intellectual properties thanks to Alec Peters and the fuckery he pulled with the Axanar situation, which created a high level of mistrust between the studios and the fans.

Anyway, there are still other things that I can do watch & reviews of.

RAW is OWEN: The WWE's Excuse For A Decade of Death Exploitation

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement...

Way back on May 23, 1999, myself and my younger brother were watching Over the Edge, and of course that date has gone on to live in infamy, since that is the day when Owen Hart plummeted to his death because of Vince Russo inspired stunt gone wrong. Yes the non-creative goof ball admitted it was his idea to have Owen do something 'special' on the show in his book 'Forgiven', so I'm not speaking out of turn here... but something else came out of it: the WWE's Show Must Go On Mentality With The Exploitation of Death.

Think about, in October 1997 with the death of Brian Pillman, the WWE exploited the hell out of it by talking non-stop about it during the Bad Blood pay-per-view that year and even having Pillman's wife come on the air to basically have her not blame the company or the wrestling industry for his death... and the WWE was rightfully criticized for it. Now flash forward to 1999 and Owen's demise, not only did the WWE continue the Over the Edge pay-per-view when there was already company precedent for calling off the remainder of a show due to extreme weather (The In Your House: Beware of Dog pay-per-view) but the following night on Monday Night RAW, when looking back on it, it's nothing more than exploiting the death of Owen Hart and the emotions of those employed on the roster, including some of the most disingenuous behavior possible.

For you see, throughout that night the WWE showed a number of its talents speaking to a camera about Owen, and the pure fact that a number of them wanted to be somewhere else instead of clearly being forced to sit in front of a camera, with a good number of them just saying the same thing verbatim is just pathetic.... not to mention having these guys and gals go out in front of a crowd to perform with just about everyone having a 'just get this night over with' approach when it was not in anyone's best interest to do so. What the WWE should've done is simply cancel the May 24, 1999 episode of RAW because they cancelled every other WWE event that week, and air just two hours of Owen Hart's best matches.

But because the night was memorable and later exploited when clips were reused on WWE programming and DVDs in later years... and it allowed them to be much for free to exploit the death of Eddie Guerrero several years later, with not one but two nights of the WWE trotting its roster in front of a camera to 'tell approved stories' with all having a theme and perform in the ring when it was clear that its the wrong thing to do, not to mention the resulting story lines and long term employment of Vicki Guerrero because his death happened on their watch, because one has to know that there were a lot of lawyers around eager to have Vicki sue the WWE.

The funny thing is it appeared the WWE learned its lesson with Chris Benoit... canceling an episode of RAW, showing matches of his career.... of course it turned out Benoit killed his wife, kid and himself... resulting in that back firing on the company, but hey, they took a step in the right direction away from exploiting death...  but then again that episode of RAW was set to be the 'funeral of Vince McMahon' who on the previous week's episode of RAW was 'blown up in a limo, so I'm probably giving the WWE too much credit, since the WWE basically turned the death of the Ultimate Warrior into a yearly 'pat on the back' segment during WrestleMania weekend.

I will say this, the WWE has at the very least gotten it right with the simple graphic and a standard 10-bell salute to those who pass away... then again in all recent cases following Benoit's death, most have been retired wrestlers... but you just know the company is chomping at the bit for someone on their roster to kick the bucket in order exploit the hell out of it... and I just bet they already have something in a vault somewhere for when Vince McMahon himself dies, it's probably in his will that the first story following his death will be 'All living members of the family fight over who inherits the company'.

Anyway, one last thing... WCW handled the death of Owen Hart much better than the WWE. They had a simple graphic, talked about him briefly and later allowed Bret Hart to wrestle Chris Benoit in a tribute match. Simple, neat, classy. Then again 'class' is not something one can associate with the WWE 99% of the time.

Basement Thoughts:The 2017 Phillies So Far

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement...

Even though it doesn't come up much, I am a fan of the Philadelphia Phillies, and I've casually watched them this year so far, mainly because of other things having my attention, either TV Shows, Twitch or Fic Writing.

Anyway, the Phillies are 15-25 so far this year, and yeah okay, that's not a good record, but there a lot of promise on the team. Cesar Hernandez and Aaron Altherr have been very good and I wouldn't be surprise if one or both make the All-Star team this year if they can keep things up. The rest of the line up for the most part has been okay, with the exception of disappointing seasons so far from Maikel Franco and Odubel Herrara, with the former appearing to be another 'Dom Brown' and the later coming back down to the earth. The bench has been okay, continuing a trend from the past decade. On the mound... well only Jeremy Hellickson has been a positive in the starting rotation, as it appears whenever he takes the hill it's the 'possibility of a win', as none of the other starters has an ERA under 4.00, and the bullpen has been down right awful at times.

So with these observations in mind... how do I expect the rest of the season to play out? Quite honestly, it's going to be a long, brutal summer and early fall. I don't see the pitching 'coming alive' and being good enough to allow many victories to take place. I do see Hellickson probably being dealt to a contender, but the returns are probably going to be a couple of 'suspects' as opposed to prospects.

8-Bit Bayonetta Steam Acheivement Puzzle

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement

Last night during my Twitch broadcast, I played 8-Bit Bayonetta as a bit of a gag, and unlocked a few achievements, and when looking at a guide to get some more, I saw that the images all lined up to make the image you see to the left.

This was really cute on Sega's part, and also shows how mundane my Saturdays can be.

Star Trek Online: Mirror Universe Invasion 2017

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement... It's that time of year again, The Mirror Universe is invading and it's up to a random group of five starships to send them packing!

For the record that was the first time I've ever be part of a team that closed 40 Portals and had the 'cut scene' of the Station sending the Mirror Universe ships back with the Mirror Dreadnought not happen, as you saw it confused me thinking something went wrong with the game.

Rant: #Dive

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement...

Obviously I'm speaking as a wrestling fan on this.

Back in the late 1990s, I thought wrestlers who did dives  were really cool, after all, they were doing stuff that was dangerous, and never seemed to get hurt. I heard repeatedly (primarily on WCW Monday Nitro) 'that's why they call it high risk' when guys landed badly or missed the mark, and looked like they may have injured themselves.... but it was just wrestling, and obviously they were 'selling a planned spot'.

Then 2001 came around... and a reality check was given, Hayabusa ended up in a wheel chair in October when a high risk stunt that he probably done a hundred times before went wrong, and one can easily see when looking back, it was bound to happen sooner or later, Hayabusa was doing enough dives and high spots for himself and whoever he was working with, and I really liked him when I got to see footage of what he could do, but one could see he was living on the edge, taking a gamble and it eventually cost him big time.

Basically, he lived by the 'high risk sword' and his career died by it... basically he reaped what he sowed...and  the more I look at it the less sympathy I have for guys like him who do the high risk spots every single time out.

In fact, every time I see wrestlers today doing high risk spots like dives repeatedly in a single match, I basically cringe and shake my head in disgust while hoping no one gets injured at the same time preparing to say 'they deserve what happened to them' if they do get seriously injured and their careers shorten if not ended. Is this, over all, a harsh way to look at things, perhaps, but you know what, if wrestlers like AJ Styles, Will Osprey, Ricochet and others who love to do high risk stunts want to play that game, they deserve what they get when things eventually go wrong.

And this is not even getting into the the whole 'doing dives' when it makes sense debate, that is a whole other can of worms, that professionals like Rip Rogers who wrestled for 23 years, Jerry Lawler who is still active as a wrestler in his 47th year and Randy Orton who has been a top star for the WWE for the past 15 years have already posted their views on....  but real quick from a fan's point of view, the way I see it this: if a high risk stunt can be removed from a match and it not change the story, it is meaningless, plain and simple.

The Fabulous Moolah: Total Scumbag

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement...

At one point in time... I had a great deal of respect for Mary Lilian  Ellison, aka The Fabulous Moolah... then I started to learn more and more about what kind of person she was.

On a recent edition of the 6:05 Superpodcast ( there was a segment called 'In The News with Jim Cornette' where the host 'The Great' Brian Last along with re-occurring guest Jim Cornette discuss old new articles that have ties to the world of pro-wrestling where an interesting story from Somerville, MA in November 25, 1956 popped up (Starts about 15:30 mark)

If you did not check it out, the article that was read was The Fabulous Moolah's 15 year old daughter Mary Carroll told police that her mother forced her to wrestle professional but did not pay her, a neglect warrant was issued for Moolah's  arrest (name at the time Lilian Pine) after she was forced to wrestle following a recent appendectomy in which she provided documentation that doctors advised against participating in future matches, in addition to a police officer being quoted as saying that Moolah hasn't supported her daughter for over 3-months, that Ms Carroll appeared on numerous cards with her mother and step-father, that she was licensed to wrestle in Maryland and North Carolina. Mr. Last and Mr. Conrette  go on discuss said article... and there being 'bad parents' in the world of wrestling is nothing shocking

However... when one looks into the fact that beyond this incident with her own daughter, The Fabulous Moolah cornered the marketplace on booking women's wrestling, demanded any female wrestler being booked by her only be involved with fellow pro-wrestlers, ordered any female wrestler that was trained at her camp to sign an exclusive contract with her, demand that trainees rent a duplex on her property, take well over 30% of any earnings the lady wrestlers earned, and if someone pissed her off, Moolah would prevent them from leaving her 'compound'. These tales were stated by trainees of Moolah WWE Hall of Famer Wendi Richter in a DVD shoot interview with High Spots (Source) , and Debbie Johnson who did an interview with Lady Sports in 2008 (Source)

And if that's not bad enough. Moolah would actually PIMP OUT the ladies that signed contracts with her, sending them to promoters to make sure exclusivity of bookings, the legendary Luna Vachon stated in 2002 that when she was 16 and training and Moolah's camp, Moolah sent her out to be photographed by an old gentleman... and this was in addition to Moolah shall we say 'taking physical advantage' of some trainees, according to Luna's aunt Vivan Vachon (Source

Then there is Moolah actually getting women fired from the WWF in the 1980s, specifically The Glamour Girls tag team (both members Judy Martin and Lelani Kai were Moolah trainees), by telling Japanese promoters that they were to win the WWF Women's Tag Titles from the Jumping Bomb Angels, even though Pat Patterson himself stated that was NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN, which lead to the WWF dumping Women's Wrestling. (

This is of course the tip of the iceberg.... but what really puts this over the top, is the story of Sweet Georgia Brown... and.... well you have to read it for yourselves folks cause there is no way I can summarize it:

So yeah... in the history of pro-wrestling, Moolah is a total scumbag in my mind, and the more and more that I learn, the more I think the WWE needs to do the right thing and treat her like they do Chris Benoit, as in erase from history as much as possible beyond archive footage.

Star Trek Online Competitive Failure and The Toxic Feelings Its Generating

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement...

As many know, I'm a long time player of Star Trek Online, hell the day the game launched I signed up for the lifetime membership and I have had very few complaints about the game... until the latest major update to the game, Season 13: Escalation... and what was promised as a renewed effort at once aspect of the game that has fallen by the wayside over the years: player vs player content.

Now I was never the biggest fan of PVP content, but even I have to admit there is something fun to facing off against someone other than the game's Artificial Intelligence, and I was very exited about about seeing some attention brought to it beyond the long abandoned Arena, Assault & Capture and Hold content.... but what we got... is a fucking mess.

What STO gave the players is three variations on a theme.... two teams of five racing against each other to complete a series of objectives with very little if any direct interaction between the two teams, and to make matters worse, there is not enough time at the beginning of each game, for new players to get briefed on what to do, let alone for a Pick Up Group (group of five players queued up thrown together) to form any type of plan

And as someone who loves playing in PUGs, I can tell you because of how ass-backwards theses new 'competitive queues' are set up, it is not uncommon to see a whole lot of angry feelings being shared in the team chat and rage quitting. Hell it's part of why I've yet to do a game session playing involving the new content beyond the new standard mission that came out the same day. The other reason why is that because it requires 10 people to queue up for it, and a lot of waiting which on a good day can take 5 minutes from the times I get on to play STO, which tells me that despite this new content launching on April 25.... less than a month later, the player base is unhappy with it.

Combine that with yet another reputation grind-fest, designed to force players to play this specific content, and to say the toxic feeling are running high would be an understatement.

So where do we go from here? Well I have a bad feeling that the developers will not be learning from this mistake and instead will be producing more 'competitive PVE' content instead of actual PVP going forward because of how many players in STO will go through the forced grind to get all the special gear associated with the corresponding reputation. One can just hope that the developers learned from this colossal fuck up.

Witchblade Tomb Raider #1

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement... This week's comic book review & recommendation is the 2nd crossover between Witchblade & Tomb Raider

Released in December 1998, this is the 2nd crossover between cult-comic favorite Witchblade and the Tomb Raider franchise, the first issue was released in 1997, but I've never came across a copy of it, but that's only the 'hisotic first meeting between' Lara Croft and Sara Pezzini... and since I don't have it, let's talk about what i do have.

This has multiple cover variations, the one I have is the Babbage's version, Babbage's for those who don't know, was a video game retailer which many today would known as  Game Stop. If memory serves me right, I got this comic around the same time Tomb Raider 3 came out for the PC... and may have gotten both the comic and the game the same day.

The story (by Michael Turner & Bill O'Neil) for this is that Sara 'Witchblade' Pezzini is Lara Croft's guest for a London Vacation, arrives at a museum as a robbery is in progress and gets roped into retrieving the idol of Bastet from a woman who is obsessed with cats. It is a decent little self-contained story with Lara filling Sara in on who, what, where and why with decent action.

The artwork (done by Turner) is pretty good for the most part, though as indicated by the cover, both Lara and Sara are a bit on the aneriexic side. Now I haven't ready many Witchblade comics, but being painfully thin is something I've never associated with Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider franchise, even back in late 90s.

Anyway, In terms of availability,, has some of the variation covers editions available as of the date of this video's posting, with prices ranging from $1.70 for the more common Marc Silvestri cover up to $175 for the Michael Turner Nikini / Bedroom variant.
