The Flash: Dead or Alive

This video does contain spoilers!

Star Trek Online: Gravity Kills - What Works For Me #TeamEmmmmsie,

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement

The new Star Trek Online Special Task Force mission Gravity Kills can be full of frustration, so here is my guide to try and keep it as easy as possible when chasing Hawking particles.

  • All power to the engines: If you're going after the Hawking particles, you got to use your speed and piloting skills, avoid engaging the enemy at all costs
  • Don't use full impulse when chasing Hawking Particles, but do use it if you're not under attack to escape from the black hole
  • If you get sucked into the black hole, hit the button to 'warp jump', otherwise you will need to re-spawn
  • If you have engine batteries use them
  • Save evasive maneuvers for a speed boost for after you get a Hawking particle, also helps to try and escape black hole.

Supergirl: We Can Be Heroes

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement...

We had a brand new episode of Supergirl tonight with 'We Can be Heroes' (Season 2, Episode 10) and of course this is a review of that episode. This video contains heavy spoilers.

The Tzenkethi Front - What Works For Me #TeamEmmmmsie,

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement

This is not a live stream replay, no it's a gaming video done directly for my pokey little YT channel, a little walk through of The Tzenkethi Front, showing you what works for me

  • Target the cruisers first, they support the shields of the Tzenkethi ships that carry the bombs
  • If you get a bomb, put all power to the engines, use your speed to get where you need to as quickly as power
  • You can't use full impulse, but you can use engine batteries and evasive maneuvers for speed boosts
  • With careful piloting you can launch the bomb near the Tzenkethi bases without them getting a shot off on your ship (as seen in the video, I took out two myself)

Capaldi Leaving Doctor Who... Here is My Reaction

Revisit: Tyler Model 005 (Build 1.11, Gameplay Review)

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement

A while back I took a look at a demo for Tyler Model 005 and I had some time today to take a look at a more recent build... unfortunately this version was a little buggy and was unable to progress far. But the game looks great and the controls are responsive

Doctor Who: The Space Museum Part 2

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement...

On this edition of Tales From The TARDIS, we're looking at part two of the Doctor Who story 'The Space Museum' titled 'The Dimensions of Time' and see why The Space Museum isn't considered memorable beyond one great moment in this episode involving a Dalek.

Time and Relative Dimensions

Doctor Who
The Space Museum Part 2
“The Dimensions of Time”
Original Air Date: May 1, 1965
Viewers: 9.2 Millions (Down 1.3 Million from previous week)

Picking up right from where part 1 ended, The Doctor, Ian, Barbara and Vicki are in the museum and must figure out how to proceed in order to avoid ending up in the cases, do they stay put or try to make it back to the TARDIS, which is what they try to do with Ian taking a ray gun that is on display as a possible way to bluff their way out of trouble… however the museum is very much like a maze with every corridor looking the same. Vicki takes charge in terms of suggesting which way to go because neither Ian, Barbara or The Doctor have a clue and it’s just hopeful thinking they can make their way out… however The Doctor ends up getting separated from the others when he is abducted by the rebels on this planet.

Yes that’s right I said rebels, which means its time to talk about the inhabitants of this museum. First there is the Museum’s curator / planet Govenor Lobos, who is a bored official just eager for the day to go home, he represents the Moroks empire who by his own admission is an empire that is basically resting on its laurels (The Doctor compares it to the fall of the Roman Empire… being so large that it declines due to being complacent) , and when he learns of the sudden arrival of a ship, he’s rather pleased and sends out his mend to find the TARDIS crew before the rebels does… and from what’s said (and seen) there is a quite an age gap, as it’s the ‘Children’ who are rebelling, and who also learn of the visitors who hope to find them and ask them for help against Lobos and those in charge… but it’s not really made clear as to how they are being oppressed… and with this being only a 4-part story, it’s really not a lot of time to get invested in this little civil skirmish that is happening.

Now as I said, the rebels capture the Doctor, who plays possum, which makes them think they killed him… and when two go off to search for away to ‘help him’, The Doctor hog-ties the one that remains (Named Darko… wonder if his first name is Donnie) and hides inside a Dalek casing in this stories one major iconic moment. When Darko’s allies return, they ask him what happened and he says ‘it was like a whirl wind’… they go on to try and find the other members of the TARDIS crew, following a trail they left behind using Barbara’s cardigan (inspired by Ian remembering the myth of Minotaur labyrinth)
.

Obviously, Ian, Barbara and Vicki became aware of The Doctor being missing, and after a surprising bit of arguing with Barbara and Ian, they figure the best course of action is to try and find him while also searching for The exit, which they eventually do and see that the locals have The TARDIS.

And speaking of captured, The Doctor himself is captured and interrogated by Lobos, who explains the history of the Museum and the details about the Moroks I mentioned earlier. The Doctor doesn’t answer any of Lobos’ questions, but due to a mind-scanner, Lobos gets the answers he wants anyway, but this leads to the Doctor having some fun, using his mind to fool the scanner… this irritates Lobos who declares that the Doctor will become an exhibit and orders him to be taken away.

It’s with this episode we see a lot of the major problems with the Space Museum is mainly with the rebellion story line that doesn’t quite work because it feels like its forced in there, and the only dynamic one could see is that the rebels are young and Lobos is old. Lobos is established well as the main antagonist, but given the set up of the story in part one, I don’t think him being a villain governing a planet is necessary, since he’s basically just runs the museum and could’ve been just someone who ‘collects’ whatever new oddities lands on the world.

Anyway, we’ll be back on Friday to go over Part 3 of the Space Museum, which is titled ‘The Search’

WWE Royal Rumble 2017 Reaction (Includes All My Notes)

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement...This as you can tell will be my review and general reactions to things that occurred at the WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view held on January 29, 2017

RING THE BELL

The following is my notes that I took during the matches as well as any talking points I wanted to bring up in the video version.

Match 1
Becky Lynch, Naomi & Nikki Bella vs Alexa Bliss, Natalya & Mickie James
-Alexa Bliss is the reigning SmackDown Women’s Champion
-Match started at 5:37 EST
-Standard six-person tag, starts with the faces on top in the early going before the heels took over after commercial break
-Becky played babyface in peril following being thrown into ring side barrier by Mickie James
-Hot Tag was given to Naomi, match broke down into the series of big moves until it game down to Naomi & Alexa 1 on 1
-Naomi pinned Alexa Bliss following a split-legged moonsault
-Match ended at 5:47 PM EST
-Cool spot: a triple vertical supelx from Becky, Naomi & Nikki to the heels

Match 2
RAW Tag Team Championship Match
-Two referees assigned to match
Sheamus & Cesaro defending against Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson
-Love the combined entrance of Sheamus and Cesaro incorporating both of their trademarks (Sheamus’s white light, Cesaro suit tear off)
-Match Started at 6:04 PM EST
-Solid tag match, Cesaro & Sheamus are a great team who complement each other perfectly, which high impact moves and signature spots while Anderson & Gallows are about as generic and cookie cutter as it gets, the punch the clock and game to have a match
-Cesaro & Sheamus had the early advantage, until it was time for Challengers to get some heart, with Cesaro playing the face in peril
-Hot tag to Sheamus occurred after mid-match commercial break, he hits the team beats of the dohran and a big flying tackle off the ropes
-Cool Spot: The super white noise double team from Ceasro & Sheamus to Gallows
-Game Changer: Anderson missed a flying big boot to Cesaro, hitting Sheamus, and nearly stole a win but the second ref saw his foot on the ropes. Match for an extended period was Anderson & Cesaro, until Gallows came into the Magic Killer, Sheamus accidentally Brogue Kicks one of the two referees, second ref enters match
-Finish: Sheamus lost his cool hitting anything that moved and ended up getting caught with the Magic Killer, Cesaro takes out Gallows & Anderson rolls him up and hooks the tights to steal the victory
-New Tag Team Champions Crowned
-Match ended about 6:16 PM EST

Match 3
Sasha Banks vs Nia Jax
-Match Started: 6:33 PM EST
-Sasha jumps on Nia right off the bat and tries to use her speed to overcome Nia’s power
-Match formula was the standard big vs little, for when Nia corners Sasha it got real ugly for the Boss real damn quick
-Sashe tried to lock in a standing version of the Bank Statement but Nia is just too big too strong
-Nia goes after Sasha’s recently injured knee, using the stretch Muffler to hang Sasha upside down
-Game Changer: Nia missing a corner charger and hits the ring post, allow Sasha to get a flurry in
-Finish Nia powers out of a pinfall following Sasha’s Double Knees, and squashes her with a Samoan Drop
-Match Ended: 6:39 PM EST

In Ring Segment:
-Shawn Michaels made his way to the ring to the delight of the home town crowd
-He talks about his match with Sid at the 1997 Royal Rumble where he won his 2nd WWF Championship
-He talk about who may win the Royal Rumble, gauging the crowd on names Brock, Goldberg, Strowman & Undertaker
-Only Taker got a positive response reaction, granted Taker is a Texas

Match 4
RAW Women’s Championship
Charlotte Flair defending against Bayley
-Charlotte has been RAW Women’s Champion since Roadblock: End of the Line in December
-Bayley blew the roof off the Alamadome with her entrance
-Match Started: 7:09 PM EST
-These two had incredible matches during Charlotte’s reign as NXT Women’s Champion , and this was no exception, Bayley gets the most out of Charlotte and keeps her on task, as opposed to Sasha who is more of a ‘spot fest’ performer. When Charlotte is on offense the crowd is 100% behind Bayley, showing that that the heel / babyface dynamic still works when done right
- Character: Charlotte pointing out Bayley is just a ‘fan’ lead to a great fire up spot from the Hugger of San Jose
-Big near fall following a Macho Man like Elbow from Bayley to Charlotte, Charlotte used the ropes to apply extra pressure when applying The figure-4
-Appears Charlotte’s lip was busted open during the match
-Finsh:, Bayley tacking a tumble from the top ropes following a shove from Charlotte, which lead to a set up of the Natural Selection on the Apron for the win
-Charlotte is 16-0 in Championship matches on PPV and retains the Women’s Title
Matched ended: 7:24 PM

Match 5
WWE Universial Championship Match
No DQ, Chris Jericho locked in a shark cage that will be hanging over the ring
Kevin Owens defending against Roman Reigns
-Kevin Owens has been Universal Champion since the August 29, 2016 episode of RAW
-Owens comes out first despite being the reigning Champion, but because Jericho has to go in the shark cage, it makes sense
-Reigns is boo’ed out of the building upon his entrance, also most of Roman’s main event matches have been gimmick matches to hide the fact he just sucks as a performer
-Before the match starts: Jericho & Owens attack Roman, Roman turns the tables, bounces Jericho off the cage and threw him in
-Match Starts: 7:39 PM EST
-Match was basic garbage wrestling 101 - lots of props and toys (chairs, steel steps and such) used through out the match with a lot of action out of the ring
-Match spills out in the crowd early on, again to hide Roman’s very limited ability, Roman dominates the early portion until the match returns to the ring area where Owen’s takes over and they trade momentum through the bout
-Intrigue: Owens built some sort of tower of chairs with the intent to power bomb Reigns through it from the ring apron.
-Owens frog splashed Reigns through a table 10 minutes into the match
-Jericho is heard through out the match and rattling the cage before he drops down brass knuckles to Owens which leads to Owens mocking Reigns Superman punch set up and execution, getting a near fall
-Owens got another near fall hitting an ugly ace crusher on Roman nearly 20 minutes into the match
-Owens ends up crashing through the tower of chairs late in the match following a superman punch after trying to suplex Reigns through them from the top rope. Reigns power bombed Owens through an announce table afterward
-Finish: Braun Strowman interfered in the match attacking Reigns and choke slammed him on an announce table, and powerslammed him through a table that was in the ring. Owens gets the pinfall victory
-For the end result, the match went too long, as Roman’s limited ability and the over use of props just had this match go on too damn long. At the very least it was acknowledge Strowman’s actions were in retaliation to being speared by Roman in recent weeks
-Match Ended: 8:03 PM EST

Backstage Segment
-Shane McMahon, Daniel Bryan, Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon around the Rumble Tumbler
-Sami Zayn enters to pick his number, annoys Daniel Bryan for taking his time
-Dean Ambrose arrives, picks his number quickly and Sami’s ball and reveals he will be entering at number eight

Match 6:
Cruiserweight Championship Match
Rich Swan defending against Neville
-Swan has been Cruiserweight Champion since the November 29, 2016 episode of 205 Live
-Match started about: 8:23 PM EST
-Match was fairly even, with a nice up tempo place with plenty of stunning flips and stunts that is typical of a Cruiserweight match
-Neville does dominate more so than Swan, to play into that he was Swan’s mentor, his heel persona and thicker body frame
-Despite a flurry from Swan, Neville bounces him against the ring side barriers, but Swan gets a hope spot following a superkick to Neville when he came off the top rope followed shortly by a 450 tumbleweed whisper in the wind looking maneuver onto Neville when he goes to the outside
-Near Fall: Swan hitting a roundhouse kick for a 2 count about 10 minutes into the match
-Turning Point: Neville crotches Swan on the top rope to set up for a superplex which was counter, they exchange big kicks , Swan counters a German for a roll up and hits a round house for a near fall and a pinfall broken by rope break in each instance
-Finish: Neville does hit the Superplex and then locks in his submission hold to force the tap out
-Match ended at 8:36 PM EST

Match 7
WWE Championship Match
AJ Styles defending against John Cena
-AJ has been champion since Backlash back in September of 2016
-For some reason, AJ Styles enters first despite being the reigning Champion,.
-No delayed entrance for Cena who makes his way out straight away after AJ’s entrance. Roof blown off again for his entrance
-Match Starts About 8:49 PM EST
-It’s a miracle Cena has never hurt his back having to carry all these indy darlings over the years, he dragged another pro wrestling match out of AJ
-Easily the match of the night, back and forth with counters for big move sequences taking place to tell the story that this is evolution from their previous bouts
-First big near fall comes 10 minutes in following a Cena AA, followed by a stiff lariet that took AJ around the world,
-AJ hit a Phonemical Forearm for a near fall of his own, with Cena kicking out rather strongly
-AJ locked in the calf-crusher about 15 minutes which Cena counters into the STF, AJ countered into a roll up and then the STF, which Cena power out of and through a series of counters Cena locked in a figure-four, that AJ counters into a cross-armbreaker which Cena powers out of into a single-arm power bomb. Incredible sequence
-AJ countered Cena’s leaping leg drop and hit a Styles Clash for a near fall at the near 20 minute mark
-AJ went for a springboard 450 but ate Cena’s knees , leading Cnea ot his the Canadian Destroyer for a near pinfall
-Cena ent for the super AA at 23 minutes and got a near fall, and the match should’ve ended right there
-Following a Styles Clash, Cena blocks a Phenomenal Forearm hits two Aas for the win
-Cena is now a 16-time World Champion!
Match ended about 9:15 PM

Blue Seed Episode 22: "Sadness, Fate, Momiji Kushinada"

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement

Today we're going over episode 22 of the Anime 'Blue Seed', this episode is titled "Sadness, Fate, Momiji Kushinada" and showed how the government was going to respond to the aragami planet growth

PLANTED SEEDS

Blue Seed Episode 21 "Sadness, Fate, Momiji Kushinada!"
Original Air Date: February 22, 1995
English Air Date: January 15, 2000

The moon’s orbit has changed, Tokyo and other major cities in Japan have been turned into real urban jungles with all of the Aragami plants

The Prime Minister orders for Momiji to be sacrificed and the TAC to be dissolved, this could be seen as a result of Matusdara’s solutions to previous Aragami encounters not working against the plants or because Mr. Kunikda, Ryoko & Koume go rouge to rescue Momiji

Momiji is surprisingly okay with being sacrificed, cause she figures Kusanagi will either save her or she’ll get revenge for his death. This leads to Ryoko slapping some sense into Momiji, and the rescue is assisted by Sakura

Kusanagi is alive and with Kaedi, Susano-O and Murokomuo, but his his energy levels are dropping, it is not explained as to why he is in their possession

For the first time since the early episodes, The Kushinada Effect / Energy is really mentioned as a way to deal with the Aragami, which raises some questions as to why research using it as a weapon was not done throughout the series, but Matsudara’s inventions and solutions were working previously so I assume they put the Kushinada Effect on the back burner.

4 Episode Left: Next episode will be covered on Friday Episode 24: "Meeting Again, Starting The Journey, I Won’t Give Up"

NXT Takeover San Antonio Reaction

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement...
Tonight was NXT Takeover San Antonio, and of course this is my reaction to the five match card that was totally 'okay'.

RING THE BELL

Tye Dillinger vs Eric Young
-Young had Sanity come out with him, Young told Tye it was his last chance to join the group
-Tye picks up Young's jacket, tosses it at him and opens the match with punches
-Solid match, Young is what he is, solid but bland as hell, while Tye continues to be the workhorse
-Young's Sanity associates did get involved in the match, and the distractions nearly resulted in EY get winning and prevented him from taking a loss following a Tye-breaker
-Eric Young got the win with the overly complicated, stupid as hell looking hotshot-wheelbarrow neckbreaker

Andrade Almas vs Roderick Strong

-Since turning heel, Almas has been fairly decent, Strong is yet another 'indy darling' signed by Triple H due to NXT's failure to develop male stars in the past two years
-Match felt very... generic, totally okay, but nothing memorable in the long run.
-Almas did work on Strong's arms during the match, so it had some nice psychology in terms of isolating a body part as a parth to victory
-Match should've ended when Strong did a back breaker on Almas on top of the corner turnbuckle, instead it's treated as 'random indy spot'
-Roderick Strong got the win following a running kick to the face

NXT Tag Team Championship Match

#DIY (Johnny Gargano & Toammaso Ciamp) vs The Authors Of Pain (Rezar & Akam)
-The AOP have Paul Ellering in their corner
-#DIY have been Tag Team Championships since Takeover: Brooklyn II
-The size difference between the two teams is very noticeable, wth the AOP using their size and power to counter act the speed and quickness of the champs until #DIY gets a flurry of high spots in
-Gargano ended up getting isolated for long stretch of time, with Ciampa getting the hot tag, hitting a pair of germans on the larger Akam & Rezar
-Match ended up being much more competitive than I thought it should've been considering the result
-Ciampe kicked out of a double-team sitout powerbomb-neckbreaker, which should've been the finish
-#DIY got in the double arm submissions in, but Rezar powered up out of Garano and used him to save his partner
-The AOP hit double powerbombs on #DIY after blocking their finish and hit the Last Chapter for the win to become NXT Tag Team Champs

In Ring Segment
-Seth Rollins made a surprise appearance, calling out Triple H to further their feud
-Triple H does come out, takes a few steps to the ring and calls for security to deal with Rollins
-Rollins fights off Security and head to the back before security overwhelms him and force him out of the arena

NXT Women's Championship
Fatal Four Way
Asuka defending against Billie Kay, Peyton Royce & Nikki Cross
-Asuka has been champion since NXT Takeover Dallas
-Nikki Cross comes out without the rest of Sanity
-Billie Kay & Peyton Royce came out together
-In a bit of brilliance Billie & Peyton got out of the ring early to let Nikki and Asuka go at it only to come back in to pick an opportunity to get the early advantage
-Asuka hit a double German suplex on both Aussie Starlets, but is seemingly overwhelmed by Nikki at times who had some responses to Asuka's tactics who planted her with a DDT on the floor and then hitting a flying crossbody on Kay and Royce
-Payton and Billi isolated Nikki to get her away from the ring area and near the announce table position where  they put her through a table!!!
-They return to the ring, hit a double team on Asuka and nearly got a nearfall, and Peyton hit a widow's peak and also got a near fall
-Asuka got a second win, took out Peyton and got the win
-Rather surprised with the result, but pleased, very fun bout and Match of the Night in my book, Billie and Peyton actually sold what offense they took through the match, unlike Nakamura

NXT Championship
Shinsuke Nakumra defending against Bobby Roode
-Roode's entrance had a group of beauties, bit of a downgrade from the choir at Takeover: Tortonto
-Nakamura came out on a motorized cart so he can do his poses without walking
-Match got started at 9:48 PM EST with a ton of stalling to start, and I mean a ton, if these two were not internet darlings, this match would've gotten crapped on from 21 jump street
-Match didn't get interesting until Nakamura took a tumble to the floor, which saw Roode take that the full advantage
-As the norm, when Nakamura goes on the offense he forgets to SELL EVERYTHING! This strong style crap should stay in Japan where it belongs
-Match did break down into a series of hitting or trying to hit signature spots, Roode nearly got a pinfall with his feet on the ropes by got caught by the ref
-Nakamura did a leaping kick from the turnbuckles onto Roode on the apron and then  tumbled to the floor clutching his knee. He did his the Kinshasha, but ended up clutching his left leg again and unable to make the pin
-a medic was brought out to tend to Nakamura, however the ref should've started a 10 count on Roode who was knocked out or counted out Nakamura while on the outside.
-When Nakamura entered the ring, Roode hit a DDT and got a nearfall, which should've have ended the match. Roode put a half crab on Nakamura's injgured leg and cranked on it Nakamura reversed it into a triangle choke, but couldn't lock it in, Roode hit's another DDT for the win.
-Bobby Roode did not steal the win, he won fairly and clearly.

Star Trek Online Season 12!!! #TeamEmmmmsie

Star Trek Online launched its season 12 content update on January 26, 2017, and I did a live broadcast going through the new mission (twice, once Fed and once Romulan), the new STFs and revisit Echoes of Light! This was a long, fun night :D -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/fredcasden

Doctor Who: The Space Museum Part 1

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement...Today we start our look at the four part Doctor Who story 'The Space Museum' with our look at part one of the story which is also called 'The Space Museum'!

TIME AND RELATIVE DIMENSION

Doctor Who
The Space Museum Part 1: ‘The Space Museum’
Original Air Date: April 24, 1965
Viewers: 10.5 Million (Up 1 Million from previous week)

Notes: This episode is one where we see all four members of the TARDIS crew work together for an extended period of time

The ‘time and relativity’ portion of Doctor Who is partially explained when The TARDIS jumps a time track, allowing everyone to roam around without being scene because that are not in ‘time’ with everything around them for they arrived earlier than they were supposed too.

We are reminded that Vicki is from the future, 300 after The Dalek Invasion of Earth and she has a grasp of temporal mechanics

For a comparison of the ‘out of time phase’ aspect of this episode, check out the Star Trek Next Generation Episode: The Next Phase, where a lot of the same ‘science’ is used

Star Trek Deep Space Nine: The Visitor

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement... We're back with another installment of Treks & Voyages, this time around it's 'The Visitor' From Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (Season 4, Episode 2)

WHAT'S ON THE TITLE CARD

Rather pleased with how this turned out to try and capture the essence of the episode in a single image. I may not be able to draw well, but give me a source of images and I can put something together

Ms. Tree (Trade paperback)

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement

Last year I took a look at a Ms. Tree comic, and since then I came across a rather unique trade paperback collection that collects three of the comic's major storylines from 1985!

The Mystery Of Ms. Tree

Ms. Tree
Published Date: July 1988
Publisher: Paperjacks (listed as part of Bogie’s Mystery)

Last year I reviewed a copy of Ms. Tree issue #26, and I had a great exchange with Deni Loubert and the history of her company Renegade Press which continued to published the comic book series after her split with Dave Sims. However during the run an prior to the closure of Renegade Press… A Ms. Tree trade paperback collection was released through Paperjacks, a publisher based out of Canada

I have found very little on the publisher itself, other than it was around at least twice, one from 1974 to 1977, and then again from 1980 to 1988, and it has an online reputation for having some rather ugly covers. And that this little paperback is the only comic listed with their company (at least according to comics.org). One thing that is quite clear, in the introduction written by Max Allan Collins is that if readers responded favorably to Ms. Tree in an actual literal graphic novel, that a second was already being prepared for. Needless to say, the second wasn’t ever produced

That said, this paperback is perhaps rather unusual in terms of presenting a collection of issues. Normally comic book trades are about the same dimensions of the comic themselves or if they are in a digest format, the panels fit the whole page. With this, we have the panels somewhat shrunk down to fit the dimension of a 4 X 7 page with new lettering and go-over over the artwork by Terry Beatty with the assistance of a Gary Kato to help present the stories in readable format.

And yes I said stories… as this trade contains three story arcs that cover Ms. Tree tales from issues #16 to #23 of the comic book run (or basically the entire run of 1985).

“Runaway” (issues #16 & 17)- Ms. Tree enters the world of runaways when her stepson Mike disappears, her search takes her in several directions including something rather… icky… for lack of a better term.

“Muerta Means Death” (Issues 18 to 21) – Ms. Tree investigates a murder that ties into her original back story with a feud dealing with a mobster who killed her husband, putting an ‘end’ to that part of her on going story.

“Right To Die” (Issues 22 & 23) – Ms. Tree investigate someone who is looking to do a very bad thing to an abortion clinic, this was a rather controversial story arc at the time it was published, getting criticism and praised because of the stance the character was presented as having on the issue of abortion.

All three stories are very well written and that even with the conversion of a standard size comic to that of a small trade paperback is done reasonable well. In addition there is an introduction written by Max Allan Collin explaining the history of Ms. Tree as well as profiles on all the primary characters, so if anyone was to pick up a copy of this little book, they would get all the info they need to understand who people are and why they act like they do, so in a way it’s a perfect introduction for new readers.

That said finding a copy of this is rather tough, I consider myself lucky to find it on a fluke search last year. Personally I would recommend getting the actual comics if at all possible, but if you can find a copy of this by some small miracle, then it’s a nice substitute.

Next Week… I finally turn my attention to Image Comics in 1993… and Rob Liefeld… with Prophet #1
