Star Trek Beyond (Basement Matinee)

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement...

I finally sat down to watch Star Trek Beyond and so here are my thoughts on the most recent of Star Trek feature films...

  • A lot of this film was based on plot convenience, for example: The Enterprise just happens to have the macguffin item and just happens to be going to a base which just happens to be near a nebula that happens to be right where the planet where the villain is preparing his revenge
  • Karl Urban is without question is possessed by the spirit of DeForest Kelly whenever he plays McCoy
  • There is no way anyone is going to convince me that Simon Pegg didn't write Scotty and Jaylah to have so much intereaction without him hoping people will write fan fics about the pairing
  • Visually the film looks great, but the story doesn't hold up when one factors in how ballsy a villain Kraul could've been
  • This film borrows elements from Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek Nemisis

Live From The Basement: Ghostbusters Sanctum of the Slime (Plus Game Review)

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement... Tonight  I did a livestream, but not of Star Trek Online! No it's Ghostbusters Sanctum Of The Slime, which actually has a plot better than the 2016 film, something big is going down, the old Ghostbusters can't handle the work load and so they (GASP) HIRE A NEW TEAM!

Ghostbusters: Sanctum of the Slime was released in 2011, two years after the Ghostbusters Video Game, and to say it was quite different is an understatement, this game is actually similar to the Real Ghostbusters arcade game from the 1980s, you blast the ghosts on a screen and move on. Really simple. But what makes this game stand out is that it actually is a continuation of the Ghostbusters story and is an extension of Ghostbusters II with Janosz playing a role in the latest spark of paranormal activity. Now since this is set in 2011, that means the original four Ghostbusters are older which means they can't keep up with all the spooks, so they HIRE A NEW TEAM! Yes that's right, this game actually does what Amy Pascal and Paul Feig refused to do, introduce a new set of characters to bust some Ghosts while continuing the story that started in 1984. The game play isn't anything special, analog sticks to shoot and move, direction buttons used for the Ghost trap mini game, Left Bumper to cycle through weapons and the Right Button to drop the trap. This game is probably best with four players, but I don't think the online feature works anymore (at least on the PC version). Regardless, it is a fun little game that is worth picking up on the cheap end.
