Gypsy Vampire (From The Vault)

Hello Dwellers and Welcome To The Basement...

On this edition of From The Vault... I'm giving my reaction to the 2005 film 'Gypsy Vampire'...

QUICK NOTES
  • This is without question one of the worst movies I've ever seen
  • The basic plot for the film is quite good, a vampire hires a doctor to try and bring back his long-dead lover through the use of modern medical science and growing count of victims
  • This film clearly was made to be intentionally bad but comes off as being incredibly lazy, and does even deserve to be called a bad film because there was no effort at all in it
  • Do yourselves a favor, avoid seeing it.

Commentary: Fear Mongering Needs To Stop

Hello Dwellers and Welcome To The Basement...

Yeah I know there are a lot of folks scared out there, but there's a cause of it that I think needs to be stopped.

True Memoirs of an International Assassin (Recap & Review)

Hello Dwellers and Welcome To The Basement...

Saw a brand new movie tonight, True Memoirs of an International Assassin starring Kevin James, and so we're doing a little recap and a little review of the latest Netflix Original feature.

QUICK NOTES
  • Yes, this movie is a variation of the 'mistaken identity' trope, but it's setting and approach here is totally fine, which is to play it straight and not for laughs, helps makes this an above average to good film.
  • Despite their being a totally smoking hot lead female character, there is no unnecesary romantic subplot
  • Andy Garcia is totally just doing movies for the pay-check these days
  • Kevin James is actually pretty good here, he certainly has some leading role qualities that work when something plays to his strengths as a performer
  • The comedy is very downplayed and surprisingly subtle
  • Katie Couric is really in this film just to make reference to the guy who lied on Oprah which was later parodied on South Park
