Hello Dwellers and Welcome To The Basement… It’s Friday, so let’s go over This Week with the Superheroes
And this will be a Axanar Cult free week!
That said, let's get to business!
I took a quick spin with PokeMon Go, and it seems like a fun way to pass time to and from work, nothing to complicated… caught a Bulbasaur… but obviously it’s a game that will focus on your travels for you to progress in it from what I can tell.
Finally got around to watching Terminator Genisys last night, and thought it was alright if it was to finally conclude the Terminator film franchise, with the whole new time-line being generated… but nope, it was a reboot designed to get more mileage out of it by shifting the dates of events happening to much later on. Certainly takes heart out of the plot knowing that no matter what happens, the Terminator franchise is just one being predestination paradox.
Speaking of timelines, Star Trek Online’s Agents of Yesterday launch was surprisingly seamless as compared to other major updates to the game, and starting a new character in the 23rd Century is a lot of fun, which provides a different narrative in the game for events that take place. There are a few bugs here and there, in particular with Federation references to saying how your character got command by dealing with the Borg, and lack of reference to when you got back in time there is no mention of how you’re ‘back home’ for a brief moment. And the temporal probes deal being randomly placed is a tad bit annoying, but hey you got to make due, and the good outweighs the bad.
I talked about this yesterday on the blog version, regarding the Tails is Dead Theory as it relates to the 8-bit version of Sonic The Hedgehog 2 leading into Sonic 3 if you play that as Sonic alone. Well if you play the 16-Bit version of Sonic 2 as Tails alone, there is of course the possibility of an alternate timeline where Sonic was defeated and captured by Eggman, thus explaining Mecha Sonic (who appears in silver form in Sonic 2 and in updated blue form in Sonic 3 & Knuckles). Even after talking about it yesterday, it does open a lot of doors of possibilities of various time lines in the Sonic game continuity.
Marvel has announced the relaunch of Invincible Iron Man to part of Marvel NOW! Era, with Tony Stark ‘retiring’ as Iron Man, allowing a new character Riri Williams, a 15 year woman, to step into the legendary role. My thoughts on this are simple: it’s a publicity stunt to make the Disney-owned company look progressive, but the real question is will the character manage to find an audience the way Kamala Khan did as the new Ms. Marvel, or will the character flop only time will tell.
In the JJ-Verse version of Star Trek, the John Cho version of Sulu is now gay… and George Takei’s reaction certainly caught many off guard, saying ‘I’m delighted that there’s a gay character, Unfortunately, it’s a twisting of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry’s creation, into which he put so much thought, I think it’s really unfortunate.’, Takei wanted them to create a ‘new character’ that happened to be gay with a history all their own instead of changing Sulu who had been straight. This to me is an extension of the ‘Give Captain America a boyfriend’ nonsense where if you have a character that is established one way, you don’t change them, you create someone new. And it’s nice to see that Takei has the same mentality.
David Yost, who played Billy Cranston on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Power Rangers Zeo back in the 90s, is less than thrilled with Bryan Cranston being cast as Zordon, because in 2009 Cranston was less than thrilled that Yost’s character was named after him because Yost is gay. It’s been well documented that Yost left the Rangers franchise because of issues surrounding his sexuality and treatment by the cast and crew, so obviously, Cranston’s comments back 09 was bound to hit close to home, and this probably isn’t the publicity Saban wants for its attempt to have a Power Rangers cinematic universe.
And to close this out, I want to get a bit serious due to recent events
There is a saying that one “Never Let The Facts Get In The Way Of A Good Story’
That is basically the creed of the news media here in the United States, regardless of where you go for your news, you can count on one thing, the news you’re getting most of the time isn’t the exact truth, particularly if you’re watching things like Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, etc, basically anything that has a ‘talking head panel’ that is geared towards manipulating an event or action to fit a certain point of view.
So you may ask, what has brought this up and why am I talking about it? Well a friend was sitting at home, lamenting about about about ‘why doesn’t certain people protest in the streets about the whatever hot button issue is at the forefront of people’s mind’… and to me the answer is simple, here in the United States, the media wants you to protest, peaceful or otherwise, because it gives them something to cover, and since these news networks tend to push certain agendas from which ever political party they tend to support more, they will twist any fact to make a story more ‘sexy’ to get viewers, which results in getting higher ratings and ad revenue from advertisers while doing their part to maintain a certain status quo of an ‘us versus them’ culture that keeps the nation chasing its proverbial tail.
Because for as tragic as things have been, guess who benefits from it more than anyone, the main stream news media and the political leaders on either side of the divide that they choose to endorse while shifting the spotlight from the issue at hand onto something else.
If I sound a bit jaded by this, it’s because I am, seeing as how 23 years ago, I and other teens around the country were victims by-proxy of the result of the Columbine incident with how school officials, the news media and politicians were on a witch hunt because we were considered ‘outsiders’, for either being by themselves and made into easy targets that fit the story that they wanted to tell which was more ‘appealing’ to the community, viewers and voters.
And in the years since then, I’ve seen it expand to the point where having an opinion can label one something derogatory.
It’s why I and others like myself, pretty much stay out of the mess, making our voices heard at election time, cause that is the only time the mainstream media can’t manipulate the story, because we the people become the story.
With that… let’s close up shop, tomorrow is of course Saturday, which means TALES FROM THE TARDIS! Till then have a good Friday night everybody.
