Let's Play Star Trek Online: Dust To Dust

Hello and Welcome To The Basement...

It's Tuesday, which means it's more fun with Star Trek Online... this week's mission is 'Dust To Dust'
For Game Play Footage Click Here

There is a situation on Kobali Prime, Ensign... excuse me CAPTAIN Kim and the player's character have been asked by name to help... because let's face it the player's character is the only officer who knows what the hell they are doing. Anyway, the Vaadwaur have launched a large offensive and have retaken the area in front of Kobali temple, where a large number of Vaadwaur are being kept in stasis... but there's more to it than that....

Now for those of you who may not know, The Kobali is a race that reproduces by recycling the dead of other races, so you can see why this may cause an issue... and this particular mission ties in two episodes of Star Trek: Voyager...  one being 'Ashes to Ashes' (where the Kobali are introduced when an Ensign Lyndsay Ballard is resurrected and tries to return to her old life but by the end she accepts her new life as Jhet'leya) and 'Deadlock' (which sees a Harry Kim get sucked out into space... only for another one to take his place).

It is that second episode where this mission kicks off, with a 'recap' of what happen to the 'original'
Harry... and then it plays out like 'Ashes to Ashes' (actually acting like a sequel) with that Harry being brought back to life as Kobali, wanting to return to his old life... but its 32 years later... and he's as whiny as ever... actually both Harry's are annoying as hell, and replaying this mission I was begging for an option that would've seen the resurrected Harry blown to bits.. because he can't get it through his thick skull that he's 32 years out of date!

The mission itself... is a bit of a long one, with a lot of dialog and puzzles to work your way through, but it starts off with a space battle and ground battles with the Vaadwaur...and also fighting them on the ground... wait, aren't they on our side following what went down a couple of weeks ago? Well... not really, the Vaadwaur still want their people that the Kobali have in stasis back... so basically they are still pissed. Once you get inside the temple... it's basically one puzzle after another, navigating electrical bursts, a maze and disappearing platforms, etc.

Also of note, this mission saw Kim Rhodes return to the role of Jhet'leya / Lyndsay Ballard, and of course Garrett Wang is playing Harry Kim twice over...and this mission was released for Star Trek Online's Fifth Anniversary in 2015, so you can see that they went all out for it.

Anyway... that will just about do it... next week... we begin the Iconian War... Cry Havoc and Unleash the Targs of War!

Local Spotlight: Danny Jennings, Yes They Bleed and Karate Unlimited

Hello and welcome to the Basement...

Today, I wanted to put a spotlight on someone local, Mr. Daniel Jennings , who in addition to being a Radio Personality, is also Karate Instructor at Karate Unlimited in Sicklerville, New Jersey. As I said in my blog regarding the 'SJ Comic Con and Toy Bonanza', he has a great idea of putting a martial arts display / exhibition with a comic book convention, because of the close ties between them, plus it ended up inspiring me to think about the why is it that martial arts are so heavily featured in comics... so obviously the big thing I  took away from speaking with him is his enthusiasm in prompting martial arts, with 28 years experience with a black belt in 'Tae Kown Do', plus teaching it for 18 years, the man is as legit as they come. But if you don't believe me check this out.

Yes that's right, he is one of the featured martial artists in the short feature 'Yes They Bleed' directed by Peter Liciaga. It's a short story about three martial artists having to put themselves out there to get a major opportunity but it's something that can be 'won' with their skills, but with who they really are. It's a nice well done feature  You can find out more about the film at www.yestheybleed.com and actually watch part of it at www.yestheybleed.com/ytb-short-film

Or if you just want to view the trailer...

It really looks awesome.

But in case you can't tell that I think promoting the Martial Arts is a good thing, there are couple of places that were in business, and I know with some folks there is that fear of starting something but not being able to see it through because the studio / dojo (not sure on the right term, goes out of business.... well with Karate Unlimited, you don't have that worry. They've been around since 1996, are opened six days a week and the combine experience of their instructors totals over 50 years while presenting an atmosphere that is about self-improvement and learning. If You're in the South Jersey area check them out 704 Liberty Ave in Sicklerville NJ 08081 (Telephone: 856-262-0007, website www.karateunlimited.com
