Arrow: Invasion! (Recap & Review)

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement

It's Wednesday night and we had a brand new episode of Arrow, titled 'Invasion!' (Season 5, Episode 8) which is apart of the four-night cross-over event, and of course we're doing a little recap and review!

  • Overall this was a nice middle chapter, with some building towards the conclusion
  • Not quite the 'Wonderful Life' episode one would've expected, but a nice what if everything that happened didn't
  • The right combination of character cameos and references to Arrow storylines from Ray-Felicity's relationship to Captain Lance's dislike of Oliver was rather perfect
  • The inclusion of Wild Dog, Mr. Terrific and Rag Man was okay, even if Wild Dog's dislike of people with powers was a little on the silly side
  • There is an obvious Jews in Space joke with this episode's shocking revelation

Live From The Basement: Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade (Lets Play & Review)

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement....

Tonight we're doing a little retro game, it's Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade: The graphic adventure, one of my favorite games of all time!  -- Watch live at

In the early 90s, I was more a PC gamer than a console one, and one of my favorite games was Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade (the Graphic Adventure), from LucasArts, and while it was published in 1989, I didn't play it for the first time until I think 1996... and I have a lot of fond memories playing this up in my room, working my way all the way up until I was able to retrieve the Grail.

That said, the game itself is more of an 'alternate take' on The Last Crusade, filling out certain familiar scene from the movie with puzzles and alternate ways to get through things. And while I remember quite a lot of the solutions from 20 years ago, I remember there being a lot... and I mean a LOT of trial and error, hell in the video I'm saving every few moments in the castle, because I'm still paranoid about making a mistake when it comes to trying to make my way to Henry Jones Sr.

The controls are pretty solid, you can use the mouse, but also there are key commands, the first four letter keys on the left hand side of the key board correspond with the on screen options for things to have Indy do, the numeric key pad is used to fight when those opportunities came up (far to frequently during my broadcast). It's very simple to learn.

Graphically, it's a late 1980s computer game that was cutting edge for its time, but yeah it looks dated, and the sound isn't the best, but all that really matters is that the game is still fun.

If you've never played it before, give it a try. But if you want something with better sound and sharper graphics, go play Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.

Hmmm I think I might want to revisit that...

Agents of SHIELD: Deal With Our Devils (Recap & Review)

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement...

It's Tuesday Night, and we had a brand new episode of Agents of SHIELD, with 'Deal With Our Devils' (Season 4, Episode 7), does the show return with a bang and keep it's momentum? We'll find out in this little recap and review!

  • Interesting style episode of seeing things from the perspective of Coulson, Fitz and Robbie who were phased into another level of reality that is pulling them down into darkness, plus seeing things from the perspective of those normal (basically everyone else)...
  • The Rider jumping into Mack was a little silly, but worked for the purpose of having it and Robbie have a chat...
  • So Simmons was taken to deal with a InHuman who was still in the cocoon phases for months, wonder who that is?...
  • The build up to Ada reading the book and building a portal to rescue Fitz and Coulson was well done, as a big thing was Fitz accusing Coulson of quitting, plus Robbie making a new deal with the Rider which opens things up for Mack wanting to kick some arse.
  • Something major is happening as well with Ada, as it appears she was designing a brain?
  • Next Week is is the Winter Finale.

The Flash: Invasion (Recap & Review)

Hello Dwellers and Welcome To The Basement...

It's Tuesday Night, and we had a brand new episode of The Flash titled 'Invasion!' (Season 3, Episode 8) and of course we're doing a little recap & review!

  • That was awesome!
  • The 're-wind' is only a bit before the closing of last night's episode of Supergirl, and everything fit together nicely
  • Oliver playing Uncle Ben to Barry's Peter Parker was well handled here, with references to the stuff with Oli's parents
  • Someone is gonna ship Sara-Kara obviously on a throw-away-line
  • There is doubt over who screwed up what now as it relates to Stein now having a daughter
  • HR and Wally pairing up as the guys who get no respect works for the long haul I think
  • The mind-control bit worked very well as it gave a reasons for the heroes to clash
  • It was great seeing Thea suit up as Speedy again.

Gotham: Mad City - Beware The Green-Eyed Monster (Recap & Review)

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement...

It's Tuesday morning, and we had a brand new episode of Gotham last night titled 'Mad City - Beware The Green-Eyed Monster' (Season 3, Episode 11), and we're doing a little Recap & Review)

  • Well if Lee didn't hate Gordon for the revelations that he did go to see her when he got out of prison, she does now after he cutting her honeymoon short...
  • Selina's mom is a real babe, though with the fedora and trench coat I thought it would've been the Gray Ghosts (Batman: The Animate Series reference)..
  • Falcone was a bit to easy to convince of the truth about his son in my opinion
  • The stuff with Nygma appears to be a way to keep characters like Butch, Tabitha and Barbara relevant for the second half of the season

Supergirl: Medusa (Recap & Review)

Hello Dwellers And Welcome To The Basement...

It's Monday night and we had a brand new episode of Supergirl, titled Medusa (Season 2, Episode 8) and so we're doing a little Recap & Review!

  • After reading a lot of the early Lena Luther stuff in the Silver Age Supergirl comics, I'm rather glad we got the double-turn in this episode with her
  • Seriously, what is it with villains escaping when the heroes gets distracted (as in the case with Cyborg-Superman), it's one of the silliest tropes in action shows
  • I was going to ask how many more stages of acceptance does Alex have to go through, but then we got the big pay off with Maggie
  • It appears Mon-El has some people looking for him, but I do like the high-school style romance build with him and Kara
  • The inclusions of the vibe portals through out the episode was well done in building up to the moment Barry and Cisco come to ask for Kara's help

Live From The Basement: Star Trek Online (Stardate 112716.3)

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement...

It's back to Star Trek Online, and we're spending the day on New Romulus, for all the stuff that takes place on that planet is now apart of the Star Trek Online story.

  • I'm not sure exactly when all the missions on New Romulus became playable fully within the context of doing missions in order, but it is quite welcome, as it's stuff that should be done before Sphere of Influence
  • At the same time, I think every mission on Nurkara Prime needs to be adjusted by the developers to have that content featured as storylines within in the game, because there are things referenced here (in the Caves in particular) that acts as a call back to missions at Nurkara. Basically what I'm saying is that the Tholians need their own story-arc for players to play before New Romulus!

The Imitation Game (Basement Matinee)

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement...

Instead of From The Vault, I'm doing another Basement Matinee as I sat down and watched the 2014 film The Imitation Game starring Benedict Cumberbatch & Keira Knightley

  • If one watches enough of Cumberbatch's work, one notices that he tends to be drawn to roles where the characters have an aloofness and arrogance about them (such as Sherlock, Doctor Strange)
  • This is the first film since 2008's The Dutchess where I really liked Keira Knightley's performance.
  • The framing device of using Turing's 1951 arrest and conviction for gross indecency is genius, showing the triumph of his work and his downfall because of the law of the time

Commentary: Tim Raines Should Already Be In The Hall of Fame

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement...

For the past several years I've watched in amazement as the Baseball Writers Association of America gets it wrong time and time again when it comes to Tim Raines

  • Raines played in 2500 games and has 2600 hits, so average at least a hit a game
  • He got on base via a walk 1300 times, so if he's not getting a hit, he's getting on base, like a lead off hitter should
  • He stole over 800 bases, good luck seeing a modern day player coming anywhere close to that
  • In the last year he played, his OBS was .351, there are players in the game today who would kill to have a .351 OBS, his career OBS was .391
  • The arugment that he's the poor man's Ricky Henderson is idiotic, just because Ricky did more and played longer, should not be held against Raines.

Live From The Basement: Baseball Stars 2 (And Review)

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement...
On this particular live stream I played Baseball Stars 2, which was an arcade game released way back in 1992, exactly how this played in the arcade is beyond me. Still I manage to win a game during this live stream  -- Watch live at

You know, as a kid, when I went to the arcades, I can't recall ever seeing Baseball-Stars 2 at any of the Neo-Geo cabinets, I remember a few fighting games and I think a racing game, but never this particular game. I also can't fully wrap my head around how a baseball game could be adapted for the Arcade, unless it was a quarter gobbler , having to put in a quarter after three outs or a certain amount of time (much like WWF Wrestlefest). But since this game is on Steam and I'm a PC gamer these days, I figure why not give it a whirl for a live stream over on Twitch instead of Star Trek Online. I have played a few games, and honestly wasn't good at batting, but pitching I held games close... so actually winning my first game on Twitch was a great surprise to myself (not to mention hitting a few homers!)

Now as a baseball game, it's perfectly okay, with the real highlight being batting and pitching, which is pretty solid. Fielding and baserunning is a whole other matter, even on 'easy' it can be a chore. Controls are for the most part responsive. Graphic wise, it looks like an arcade game from the early 90s, or a later stage SNES / Sega Genesis game. The music is repetitive and can grow to be distracting. Gameplay wise, this isn't any old rapid fire game, it's a freaking marathon as a single game takes about a half-hour (or at least with me playing it) which raises a ton of question about how the hell this did in the arcades, because playing two games back to back is a bit draining,

VERDICT: It's perfectly fine for what it is, it's nothing special, but its a game that you can play just to fill some time, like a good half-hour before moving on to something else.

Fan Art Corner - Ecto-1 On The Scene

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement...

So I had this idea for an image, of Ecto-1 sitting on a darken street... and so this was the end result of trying to bring that visual to life. This was created using paint.NET

Blue Seed: "I'm Fired Up! I'll Do It! Because I'm the Kushinada!!" (Talking Anime)

Hello Dwellers and Welcome to the Basement...

We're Talking Anime, and of course we're discussing episode seven of Blue Seed titled "I'm Fired Up! I'll Do It! Because I'm the Kushinada!!", which has a slightly different style plot as compared to the first six episodes

  • Original Airdate: 11/16/1994  (English, 11/27/1999)
  • The kidnap / ransom plot is certainly quite a different tale as compared to the monster of the week style episodes we have seen in the first six episodes (5 if you count the first two episodes as 1 story)
  • The Kushinada project and how it relates to Momiji and her encounter with Orochi in the 2nd episode when it placed her in a ceramic field has some extra significance considering it comes into play here
  • Having the Aragami disguise themselves as humans to achieve their goals adds a whole new ball of wax into the field, as gives more story telling options
  • Momiji certainly was hell bent to find the kid, she really took it personally that the Aragami would use a child to try to get to her.
  • Just based on his disguise, it's pretty obvious who was the chief villain in this episode
