Skullgirls 2nd Encore - First Impressions

A 2nd Encore to an already great 2D-Fighter? It's Paws-itively delightful!
Earlier this week (April 13 to be exact), a new set of DLC content was released for Skullgirls...

Is that Beuwolf? Or Is it Batman?
Now for those unaware, Skullgirls is a 2D-Fighter that features a variety of characters looking to save or conquer the world from the Skull Heart, a mystical item that corrupts those who make a wish with it. The game itself was released in 2013 and has certainly gain a cult following over the past three years. It has various difficulty settings that allow a player to find a level comfort playing the A.I. as well as online play.

There is a tutorial mode in the game to help new players get acclimated on how to play, so no one is left feeling left out... though playing online with other players can lead to some pretty on-sided affairs, but that's the norm with fighting games in general these day!

Double was no match for Filla... this time...
Anyway, let's talk about the the new DLC pack, called '2nd Encore' adds onto the game in several ways.

First off you get all the DLC characters, that have been released since 2013, so Squiqly, Big Band, Eliza, Beowulf and Robo-Fortune to help round out the roster. In addition all the color variations, giving every one 25 different color pallets. Perfect for those wanting a lot of variety with how their chosen characters look.
Total eclipse of the Heart!

Secondly, the story mode now has voice over dialog for every character, bringing the story to 'life' and being able to get a more closer feel to everyone's personality. Played though Ms. Fortune and Filla's stories, plus also revisited the old Marie 300% mode, and there is something about about the voices that to me seem like perfect fits.

Third, a brand new Challenge mode, featuring 25 various challenges that will test the players skill with various handicaps, such has either having to defeat 3 characters with 150% health while you have only 50%., or a shorter time limit to achieve victory. And don't be surprise if the A.I. goes into 'turtle' mode, blocking as much as possible to work the clock against you!

Me Want Cheeseburger!
And lastly a survivor mode.... this will certainly test the skills of players, how long can you last against increasingly difficulty opponents?  It will certainly help lesser skilled players learn how to take on tougher opponents.

The thing about this DLC that some may or may not like, is that if they already have a lot of the previous DLC, all you're getting is the new modes... but I personally feel it's worth it seeing as how the game has grown quite a lot in three years.

Claws encounter of the furred kind!
Now if you've never played Skullgirls before and are looking for a fun 2D Fighter, getting the game
and the 2nd Encore Pack at the same time is the way to go!

To close this out I'm going to include some in-game footage... cause well, having a video with my blogs is what I do! However... in it, I only touch on the 'Challenge Mode' and the 'Survivor Mode'. While I wasn't successful in the challenge I selected to play... in survivor mode... let's just say it was a CLAW-some run of 15 victories!
